My Story
Back in 2011 my life changed forever when I went from happy employee to Mompreneur working to earn extra income on the side. As long as I can remember, I always dreamed of being an entrepreneur. I used to daydream about what it would be like to earn a full-time income through my own business. However, up until that point, I never really thought it happen. It wasn’t until my husband and I gave birth to our first child that the idea of becoming an entrepreneur became a real world necessity.
Shortly after giving birth to our daughter, we found ourselves faced with massive baby related expenses. I’m talking about diapers, formula, and child care just to name a few. It wasn’t until we began calculating our childcare costs that we realized that we needed to start looking into creating an additional income stream. You see, when we sat down to calculate how much it would cost to have our daughter go to daycare so that I could return back to work, we found out pretty quickly that I would literally have no paycheck left. As a matter of fact, we learned that we would actually lose more money with me working my normal hours then taking care of our daughter at home. So we made the painful decision to reduce my work hours so my husband and I could take turns watching after our child. In a matter of weeks my pay was cut in half. We had to do something to make up for the lost income. My criteria became clear. Start a business that gave me flexible hours and gave me the ability to increase my source of income.
Putting My Existing Skills To Work
Since my boss had been loaning me out to her clients to teach them how to use QuickBooks. I made the decision to use my existing skill set as a bookkeeper to create a boutique bookkeeping firm where I could continue to do what I loved; preparing income reports for clients, setting up QuickBooks software files, and training small business owners on how to use their QuickBooks. This quickly became a great way for me to earn the extra money we needed to pay monthly bills and additional baby expenses.
However, by baby number two, we faced another dilemma. Not only did I have no choice but to leave my job all together due to childcare costs, but I needed to figure out a way to increase my income so that I could at least match my previous full-time Job Income. So I decided to create a YouTube Channel during my spare time in hopes of attracting new clients. What I didn’t anticipate was not being able to handle the amount of potential clientele that one YouTube video would produce. Why you ask? The sheer amount of time and energy my children needed from this married woman stifled the amount of time I could dedicate to new clients. It was then I knew that I needed to find a new way to start earning income in a way that would allow me to give my family the attention they needed as well as grow my business. Enter passive income. Lucky for me, I had already acquired a few clients that had either had a full time online business or part of their local business had an online element.
The Shift To Flexibility and Unlimited Income Potential
After asking my existing clients about ways to earn a living online. They suggested I look into creating an online course and online classes about bookkeeping. This was their biggest struggle when they started their business and to be honest before I got into the world of accounting and bookkeeping it was what I was most interested in learning.
So I began to research ways to create courses online and run webinars. When it came to online business, you name it, I researched it. That resulted in me training business owners online and in person on how to use QuickBooks for their business. It also allowed me to create digital products as well as a custom online course. Before I knew it, I was immersed in the online business world.
Now years later, I have decided to take everything I have learned throughout this online business journey and share it with you. Specifically the business side of making money online.
So I am formally inviting you to join me as I pull back the curtain behind the mystery of the online business world and show you exactly how your online income and expenses can impact your daily business decisions and ultimately your bottom line.
